Tim Tebow ... should be applauded for standing up for his convictions

In today's sports climate, expressing an opinion often results in serious backlash. In some cases, an athlete's choosing to do what Tebow is doing might be professional suicide.

Tebow's decision to appear in this ad should be considered just as courageous as Muhammad Ali's decision to not enter the draft, or Tommie Smith's and John Carlos' black power salute at the 1968 summer Olympics.

Strangely fascinated by the Tebow ad controversy. My opinion fwiw: (1) CBS is hypocritical for airing the ad given stuff they've rejected in the past, but it's their show, they can do what they want (2) Like the author of quoted ESPN article, I think Tebow should be applauded for standing up for what he believes in, given the obvious risk to his (already likely to be short-lived) pro football career and the endorsements that would come with it if he stood for nothing like most everyone else.

Airport Security Measures are Window Dressing

They call for more screeners, screenings, better use of technology, longer lines, no pillows, no laptops, no use of the potty, nothing on your lap, and countless other inconvenient knee-jerk ”window dressings” to make you think they’re doing something about airport security. I saw some guy on the news this morning who said if it had been proven the terrorist had sung “Mary had a Little Lamb” prior to lighting the match, the TSA/FAA would ban singing on aircraft tomorrow.

Meanwhile no one has the spine to just stand up and say “if we had done our job by merely revoking this guy’s Visa” this threat would have never occurred. And as for the next guy who tries it? If someone who looks like a terrorist, smells like a terrorists, has a name like a terrorist, buys a ticket like a terrorist, and travels sans bags like a terrorist, assume he’s a terrorist.

This issue gets me more riled up than most politically. There is still zero common sense being applied to airport security, just knee-jerk reactions. At the same time, it feels like the terrorists are probably 10 steps ahead of us plotting something really awful. Scary times.

Dressing the Part: How Important Are Business Clothes If You Work from Home?

Also, after the first three days, I realized that something strange was happening. Not only was I able to check off everything from my to-do lists, I even add new tasks and am able to complete them. In other words, the clothes seemed to be making me more productive. They gave me a physical manifestation of the separation between work and home life.

I usually find this to be the case as well, though if I wake up and happen to have a ton on my plate, getting right to it with pajamas on isn't a problem either. Keeping the home workplace clean (i.e. - not littered with clothes) is also important to creating a positive environment.

Watched "Sports Machine" all the time growing up and more recently watched Michael report as a resident of the DC area. A truly unique sportscaster.

Got Baggage? Let Yahoo Pick it Up (Filed Under: Stupid Ideas)

Yahoo, as part of its holiday giving program, will pay for your baggage fees if you're traveling from San Francisco International or San Jose International airports. They'll be there on Dec. 23, traditionally one of the busiest travel days of the year. Not a bad deal for travelers, who likely booked --and payed for -- their tickets, only to learn that they'd have to cough up a bit more dough for the privilege of actually traveling with luggage.

Umm, cool I guess, but how about "giving back" to the poor instead of whiny travelers complaining about a $15 bag fee? Yes, bag fees suck, but this is such a misuse of money, especially from a company that has been laying off people in droves.

Gossip Site, TMZ, Is Expected to Start a Sports Spinoff - NYTimes.com

If the Tiger Woods scandal did not give athletes reason to stay in their hotel rooms reading their Kindles, this news may: TMZ is expected to unleash an all-sports spinoff from its gossip Web site early next year.

I bet a lot of athletes are not so stoked about this news ... I also bet the site is going to be hugely successful.

Tiger Woods scandal draws surge of web hits

And while pointed criticisms have been aimed at Woods for his affairs, people using social media are venting through parody, according to Adam Ostrow, editor-in-chief of Mashable, a popular social media guide.

"Lots of funny videos are being made about it and kind of making fun of the whole thing," said Ostrow. "Some folks are really pushing the limits of good taste and humour, but that's what type of story it is."
